How long does it usually take for a new house finch couple-the female to complete?

They’ve been working on it for the last 2 days, but a lot of the material is on the patio floor. I looked up into the awning tonight, and it seems like there’s nothing up there at all ? I can’t see a nest formed yet, nor any type of material where they’re attempting to build the new nest? I’ve been watching them for the last 2 days, & expected to see some sort of progress. Is this normal? on the internet, it says that the female can complete the nest in 2 days or so. Today was their 2nd day…..so I needed some advice?
